Mount Kosciuszko
Mount Kosciuszko is 2228 meters in height,
making it the highest mountain on mainland Australia. It
may not be the tallest mountain on earth, but it is one
of the oldest. The Aboriginals named the mountain Tar-Gan-Gil,
and visited the area for ceremony, socialising, sharing
and trading. A Polish geologist and explorer, in honor of
General Tadeusz Kosciuszko, a Polish freedom fighter, gave
the new name, Mount Kosciuszko in 1840. He said the name
occurred to him because he was "amongst a free people
who appreciate freedom." Now, Mount Kosciuszko truly
embodies this spirit of freedom as people from around the
world visit to relax and enjoy the Snowy Mountain area.
The wonderful accommodations and activities make this mountainous
region of Australia the perfect getaway, whether it is winter
or summer. Here at Visit Snowy Mountains you will find everything
you need to plan and book your vacation to Mount
