It's that time again, some good advice in preparation for your trip

Date: 01 March 2010

It's that time of year again, Thredbo has seen its first snow shower, Perisher Blue has released its new Annual Super Pass (which might I add, includes access to Mt Hotham and Falls Creeks) and all my snow gear has been dragged out from under my bed and scattered around the house ready for another fun filled Australian winter.

There is nothing more exciting than waking up in one of chalets in Thredbo Village and looking up at Mt Kosciusko to see a perfect blue sky, trees moving lightly in the breeze and the first lifts powering up. There is something, on the other hand, less exciting, waking up to an overcast day, winds over 100km/h and a notice that all lifts have been placed on wind hold but don't let it get you down to much, the Snowy Mountains has many things that can keep you entertained regardless of what Mother Nature brings.

Whether you're at an advanced skiing level and spending half your day in the terrain parks or just starting to link your first turns together, the Snowy Mountains ski resorts offer something for everyone. Thredbo resort has the longest ski trail in Australia at 5.9 km which gives more experienced riders …. But also offers the easy to learn on Friday Flat. Maybe this year is your first snow experience well both resorts offer ski and snowboards lessons for all ski levels for people just learning to strap in to a snowboard, step into some skis or maybe your starting to learn some freestyle tricks in one of the many terrain parks. These classes are turned by some of Australia's most professional and experience instructors and sorry but the excuse "I've got to watch the kids" want work here as both resorts offer day long ski school for the young ones.

Even on those days where you wake up early, dark clouds cover the sky, the wind is blowing hard, it's either raining or snowing and the lifts are all on hold, there is still more than enough to do at either of the NSW resorts or back down a little out of the weather at Jindabyne. Thredbo village has an endless number of restaurants, bars and shopping facilities. So after you hit the snooze button to have a little extra sleep in, jump up and remember to bring your warmest jacket and rain coat and head to one of the warm cafes for a hearty breakfast, nice warm hot chocolate and a seat around a fire. Both Thredbo and Jindabyne have plenty of stores to shop in and the local theatre in Jindabyne gives you a nice warm place to entertain yourself. There is no shortage of restaurants and café with fireplaces that you can spend a lazy afternoon with friends drinking hot chocolates and sharing the adventures of the last few days or the days to come.

Regardless of the weather there is no shortage of fun to be had at any of the Snowy Mountains ski resorts and towns. Remember to pack not only for a warm snow day but throw in an extra jacket, gloves and rain coat because if your ready for any type of weather condition there is nothing stopping you from having a day or week you will never forget.
